Michael Musandu  (BSc Computer Science)

In short:

We make HUMANS! Full human body generation, Head-to-Toe.

How did you come up with your startup idea?

Most startup ideas start with a problem but ours started with a solution, “using neural networks to make images”. After several pivots, we stumbled upon this problem and immediately fell in love with it, knowing we had the perfect solution for it. Since then, we’ve surrounded ourselves with people with the biggest pain for this problem.

What is your company’s unique proposition?

The reality is we look nothing like the display models companies currently use. Display models should closely resemble the person buying the product; this way we truly see how it will look on us. Essentially, customers should be able to:

  • Filter on size and see the respective display models change in weight
  • Filter on skin tone and see the respective display models change ethnicity

Lalaland generates and hyper-personalizes full human body models, Head-To-Toe. We offer a large and diverse library of size and ethnic-inclusive models. This enables websites to personalize different display models to show to different customer segments.

When did you feel like you really nailed something?

All tech achievements aside, talking to women who shop online and have no connection to us or our product and, knowing that we are heading in the right direction is priceless. Knowing that this solution will create immense value for them and ultimately, set a new standard for E-commerce webshops.

How has your academic background benefited you in running a company?

Having technical domain expertise has given us an unfair advantage to be able to stay quick and nimble. Constantly iterating, developing and deploying the solution ourselves.

What is the best advice you could give someone who wants to start their own business?

Ugnius: “Move quick yet calculated. Timing is crucial in the world of business ideas which are slept on for too long end up dead.”

Michael: “It’s all about EXECUTION. Go out there and get your hands dirty, what are you waiting for?”

What are your next steps for the coming months/half year?
  • Validating some KPIs (conversions and cost of returns), whilst being live on our customers webshops
  • Have a polished product that’s ready to scale
